PMSA Individual Membership Categories
PMSA’s grading structure and criteria are designed to achieve a model that will be consistent with practices of similar bodies across sectors and countries, and that by maintaining and reviewing the criteria on a regular basis, we contribute to developing and growing the profession in South Africa.
Applicants are reminded that PMSA membership is voluntary, however, specific requirements apply to each member category.
New applicants for PMSA membership are invited to review the information below to determine which individual membership grade is most appropriate to them, their knowledge and experience in the project management context, and are requested to complete their online application accordingly.

Associate Membership

| Description & Criteria |
Affiliates
- An Associate is someone who has an interest in Project Management and supports the
objectives of PMSA but does not yet meet the criteria to be a (FULL) Member.
- Associates are not permitted a vote at annual elections, the PMSA Annual General Meeting
or any Extraordinary General Meeting
- Associates are expected to demonstrate their commitment to PMSA by signing the PMSA Code of Conduct
- There are no post-nominal for this grade.
Retirees
- A Retiree is a person who has retired from full-time employment and wishes to
retain their interest in the project profession.

| Application requirements |
1. Submission of online application including all mandatory data
2. Payment of applicable fee incl. submission of proof of payment
Membership will be activated following initial review and reconciliation according to selected payment method.

| Terms & conditions |
Membership is renewable on an annual basis. A member will receive an email reminder /
notification 60 days and 30 days prior to the month of membership expiry. Members can log into their profile at any stage to view their membership status and request an invoice. |
| Member pack contents |
New members will receive a username and password with which to access their online profile immediately on membership approval. A posted membership acknowledgement letter will be issued within a month of membership activation, and includes a 'membership card for life'. This card remains valid when presented with a letter confirming annual renewal. |

Full Membership
|

Description & Criteria
|
A (Full) Member of PMSA is a person who possesses the necessary qualifications and industry experience specified by PMSA
Requirements:
- Either: Any 4 year Bachelors Degree at NQF 7, PLUS a minimum of 3 years industry / management experience PLUS a discretionary peer group interview OR: A Certificate at NQF 5 PLUS a minimum of 5 years approved industry / management experience PLUS a discretionary peer group interview may be conducted
- Members must demonstrate their commitment to the project management profession by
signing the PMSA Code of Ethics
- Applicants undertake to participate actively in a programme of sustainable professional career development and to participate in the affairs of PMSA.
- (Full) Members of PMSA are eligible for nomination to the National and Branch executive committees
- Members are eligible to vote at annual elections, annual general meetings and
extraordinary general meetings
- Members may use the post nominal Member PMSA (M.PMSA)

Membership fee – R1065.00 per annum inclusive of VAT on advice of outcome of grading |
| Application Requirements |
1. The applicant must ensure that they meet the criteria for PMSA Full Membership.
2. Applicant completes the online application form and makes payment of the grading fee and annual membership fee.
3. Application will be provisionally assigned following initial review and reconciliation according to selected payment method.
4. Applicant will be requested to submit documents aligned to grading criteria, to their member portal.
5. On receipt of all relevant documentation, application will be submitted for grading.
6. Feedback on the outcome of grading will be provided on the applicant's membership profile and the applicant will be alerted accordingly by email.
7. Membership is activated.

Professional Membership

| Description & Criteria |
A Professional Member is a Full Member in good standing whose knowledge, skill experience and contribution to the project management industry is consistent with the requirements of this PMSA status level.
- PMSA has endeavoured to align the criteria for this membership status level with those of its peer organisations around the world, by recognising relevant characteristics, experience, certifications, accreditations and qualifications as components of the application for PMSA professional membership
- Applicants for PMSA Professional membership must submit evidence, as per the requirements of the application form, in support of their credibility, knowledge, experience and commitment to the profession in terms of all of the following four areas*:
o Industry Experience: Minimum of ten years as a practicing project manager
o Consistent professional practice against a recognised PM methodology
o Qualifications / certifications: NQF7 equivalent in Project Management
o Contribution to the profession through voluntary, developmental, research or mentoring activities
- In addition, Professional Members must demonstrate their commitment to the project
management profession by signing the PMSA Code of Ethics
- Professional members are eligible to vote at annual elections, annual general meetings
and extraordinary general meetings
- Professional Members may use the post-nominal: Professional Member PMSA (PM.PMSA).
- *The applicant will nominate a referee who can substantiate evidence supplied in each
of the four areas.
