Understanding membership levels

PMSA professional MEMBER

A Professional Member is a member in good standing whose knowledge, skills, experience and contribution to the project management industry is consistent with the requirements of this PMSA status level. Members hold an NQF 7 equivalent in Project Management and possess a minimum of three years industry experience of consistent professional practice against a recognised PM methodology. These members contribute to the profession through voluntary, developmental, research or mentoring activities. These eligibility criteria are explained in detail below.

EXPERIENCE
A member at this level has a minimum of ten years’ experience practicing as a project manager, or combination of project and programme, or portfolio manager and/or candidate has a minimum of three years’ experience researching and / or providing education / training in the field of project and programme, or portfolio manager.

PRACTICE
The member has consistently practiced as a project manager in their professional environment, according to recognised standards and methodologies that can be considered good practice in their working environment. 

KNOWLEDGE
Members at this level possess a tertiary qualification equivalent to at least a NQF level 7 in project management

PROFESSIONAL COMMITMENT
Candidate must sign the PMSA code of ethics and professional conduct and statement of authenticity as well as demonstrate their commitment to the profession with evidence of at least one of the following:

  1. Candidate has written articles that have been published in project management (or related) journals and / or industry publications
  2. Candidate has delivered papers on project management or related topics at local or international conferences
  3. Candidate has volunteered time and knowledge as a guest speaker at a project management meeting or event
  4. Candidate has contributed to the development of PM good practices through formal local or international workgroups
  5. Candidate has volunteered my knowledge and expertise to benefit a development or community project
  6. Candidate has served, in a volunteer capacity, on a PMSA leadership structure at national or branch level
  7. Candidate has been involved as a mentor or coach, or otherwise contributing to the development of the next generation of project managers
