A key goal when building a career should be developing a professional network. The benefits of such a network are not always felt immediately. It’s an ongoing interplay of give and take that leads to being able to call on your network for work opportunities, collaboration, referrals and collegiality – a term that means having a professional sounding board against which to bounce decisions, opinions and ideas.
PMSA provides a networking environment and specific networking opportunities through not on ly its events, but a National Office that seeks to connect people – within the membership base and with our vast international network of experts, authors and researchers.
PMSA’s Biennial National Conference is a networking as well as a knowledge sharing event and on Day 1, after a full programme, we will be hosting a cocktail evening where we will feature the latest South African contribution to the body of knowledge. This comes in the form of the book: Stakeholder-led project management - Changing the way we manage projects, by PMSA member Louise Worsley, edited by Tim Kloppenborg. This book is a result of the very kind of contact and collaboration PMSA prides itself on, in that it brought together two like-minded members of our community. It draws on global thinking combined with local case studies to illustrate what our project managers have learned from our unique environment, that can be applied the world over.

This is the second time that a collaboration between a PMSA member and Tim Kloppenborg has resulted in a book. At the same event we will also feature Clive Enoch, who authored the book: Project Portfolio Management: A Model for Improved Decision Making.
The cocktail evening will bring home the value of networking and also the knowledge capital that resides within our borders. As the sun sets over the unique Johannesburg skyline and attendees enjoy refreshments and conversation, several published authors will share their views on how others can turn their ideas into knowledge resources, how to self-publish and the benefits of professional collaboration.
