TOPIC: Economic landscape and its impact on projects
South Africa is currently experiencing a lot of political uncertainty which has now directly translated into economic uncertainty. The Rand has plummeted from the heights of R12.31/US$ in the morning of Monday 27 March 2017, before the former Minister of Finance Mr Pravin Gordhan was publicly and embarrassingly summoned back from an investment trip abroad, to the lows of about R13.93 as it is at the time of writing this synopsis on Tuesday 11 April 2017. The subsequent national cabinet reshuffle where the former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan was replaced from his position has worsened things, later leading to South Africa being downgraded to a Junk Status by two of the credit rating agencies, namely Standard and Poor, and Fitch. The presentation by Prof Bonke Dumisa will be on the impact of these political developments on project management in South Africa.
