ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Mike Murray is a Senior Consultant working with EPCM Global, an Engineering, Project Management and Specialist Staffing solutions provider, providing innovative management and engineering consulting solutions for complex and high-risk operations and project types.

Mike was previously contracted to Eskom where he developed and managed the project life cycle model for new build capital projects. During his time at Eskom, he introduced and established the Construction Industry Institute (CII) Project Definition Readiness Index (PDRI) and Alignment best practices. Mike has worked with a number of management consultancies and various large corporate clients in the project and operations disciplines.

Construction Industry Institute (CII) based at the University of Texas at Austin, is a consortium of more than 130 leading owner, engineering-contractor and supplier firms from both the public and private sectors. The purpose of CII is to measurably improve the delivery of capital facilties. The recently launched CII – South Africa Chapter will aim to establish a platform for capital project owners, governmental agencies, contractors, suppliers and academia by leveraging on the International CII knowledge database and processes.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Front end planning lays the foundation for predictable and efficient project delivery. It is the essential process of developing sufficient strategic and critical information with which owners can address risk and make decisions to commit resources in order to maximize the potential for a successful project.

During this event Mike Murray looks at CII published research on Front End Planning and unpacks the related best practice knowledge domains that support it. CII Best Practices have been proven through extensive industry use and/or validation. The research combines credible, quantitative, university-based research with the expert guidance from personnel at the CII member organisations.

The event concludes with an illustration of one or more of the CII front end planning tools as applied in an industrial, infrastructure, building or mining project.
