ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Eben van Blerk 

Eben van Blerk has 24 years corporate IT experience.  He holds an MBA from USB as well as a Doctorate of Technology from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. As consultant, academic and researcher, his areas of expertise include psychological factors in information systems work. His specific focus is the role of emotional intelligence in implementing IT strategies.

What qualities make a successful business analyst, systems analyst or project manager?

Technical skills are traditionally highly valued. Companies often focus on the hard technical skills when recruiting these IT professionals but ignore the human attributes. There is however, a growing awareness in the IT industry that technical skills in the business analysis, systems analysis and project management disciplines alone are insufficient for successful business-IT alignment. Technical skills are becoming an entry level requirement. The IT industry requires more. Business analysts, systems analysts and project managers need to be emotionally intelligent as well. In this talk, Eben van Blerk will unpack the implications of this latest South African research for IT professionals.
