ABOUT THE TALK: To outsource or not to outsource? Is outsourcing the way to go and if yes, why isn’t everybody doing it? Well, perhaps that day is not too far ahead. Outsourcing as a concept involves much more than simply getting a piece of work done in India, or having products manufactured in China. Outsourcing is about focusing your efforts and resources on what you do best and getting someone else to do the rest. Obviously, you must be prepared to pay for the work that you outsource but, if you have done your homework, the end result should be that you are better off than if you had done the work yourself. Marko will argue that the Outsourcing concept can work for everyone, for you as an individual or for the company you work for. You do not have to be a multinational company with a big production line in order to consider outsourcing; you can actually outsource just about any piece of work, even all those items sitting on your personal “to do list” for the last few months. Also, you could outsource the work today to someone next door, but tomorrow you could ask someone in India to help. During the talk, we will also discuss the factors that are important when making a decision whether to outsource or not and some of the challenges that we are likely to encounter. ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Marko Divac is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and PRINCE2 Practitioner. He has more than eighteen years’ experience in Information Technology and has been involved in a large number of IT projects in the Telecommunications, Banking, Financial Services, Distribution and Retail industries. During his Project Management career Marko has been exposed to several facets of Outsourcing. Many of his projects require coordination of effort and activities between numerous external partners, across multiple time zones and several different countries. Marko has been on both sides of the Outsourcing fence: sometimes he would manage projects that required him to obtain outsourced services from someone else and in other instances the project itself would be an outsourced work item for someone else.
