 ABOUT THE EVENT

TOPIC:   The Real Value of Virtual Reality & Other Digital Technologies

Discussing concepts and practical applications of how to use Digital Design Innovation to conceptualise, design and deliver engineering and infrastructure projects better

PRESENTER:   Samista Jugwanth

Samista completed her B.Sc. Engineering degree (cum laude) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).  During her undergraduate degree, she received the Deans Commendation six times and in 2009 she received the awards for the highest academic merit in Fluids & Hydraulics, Structures, Transport & Environmental Engineering - and in the Civil Engineering program as a whole.  She was awarded the TB Davies Scholarship in 2010 and completed her MSc. Engineering (Civil) Degree at UKZN in 2014. Her research focused on creating a model to evaluate the effects of various estuarine management strategies on the St Lucia Lake (UNESCO and World Heritage Site) and was presented at the International Coastal Symposium.

Samista has worked on municipal water projects such as pump stations, reticulation design, paddling pool complexes - as well as process pipework and wet services for large industrial clients. She has specialised in the design and project management of treatment plants, both inside and out of the South African borders, and currently holds the position of Aurecon’s eThekwini Water Lead.

Linking innovative methods to practical applications is a topic of interest to Samista, and in 2018, she led a multi-international team to the 2018 AECOM Global Challenge Semi-Finals, where they worked on developing a concept for a Virtual Reality Process Controller for Multiple Process/Treatment Works.
