ABOUT THE EVENT

There is a tremendous growing industry appetite for adopting agile frameworks as a way of delivering products and services. The term ‘agile’ is very broad and is viewed in many different ways throughout the agile community. There is a set of well-known frameworks referred to as ‘agile methods’ and there are also well-known behaviours, concepts and techniques that are recognized as characterizing the agile way of working.

Agile can be used in projects as well as in business as usual environments. Deciding on the project approach can be a daunting task for the project manager as project approach defines the solution or method to be used by the supplier to create the project products. The project manager must take into considerations lessons from previous similar projects as well as environmental conditions.

In this presentation we look at the risks associated with project approach and what are the mitigating factors. A closer look at what makes Agile suitable for certain projects and waterfall idea in certain circumstances for example where predictability of requirements is of a higher degree. A Project Manager’s role is often associated with command and control setup environments whilst agile teams are set to be autonomous self-organizing servant leadership teams. Agile teams prefer to be lead rather than managed. What are the challenges and issues faced by a Project Manager working in agile organizations as opposed to waterfall environments?
In conclusion we highlight some factor to consider for both Agile and Waterfall project approaches and also provoke some thoughts as to how to derive most benefits from the two approaches.
