 ABOUT THE EVENT

Rory Burke, author and publisher of the Project Management and Entrepreneurship Series of books, will be on a lecture tour of South Africa. He will introduce his new second edition of Fundamentals of Project Management (ISBN: 978-0-9941492-1-3), which has been updated to include the latest PMBOK 6ed and is mapped to SAQA 50800.

Rory’s PMSA presentation will focus on the project planning and control cycle that forms the backbone of the special project management techniques, which run like a thread through all the knowledge areas interlinking phases, processes, plans and people.

Rory’s lecture will be presented from a personal perspective to outline how the different projects he worked on as a naval architect, project manager and lecturer have helped to develop the tools and techniques that are explained in his books.

The presentation will show how many of the project management techniques we use today originated from the management of marine and defence projects. This particularly applies to Gantt Charts, PERT, Scope Management, Risk Management, Quality Assurance, Earned Value and the Project Life Cycle.

NEW! PMSA AUTHORS' CIRCLE
Having Rory Burke back on our shores presents an opportunity to include something we at PMSA have been planning for a while – the introduction of an Authors' Circle.

With more and more textbooks in aspects of project management being written by South Africans and published locally or overseas, plus many people who know they have a book in them, we would like to create an interest group for published, in progress and aspirant authors.  This ‘Authors' Circle’ will meet for the first time after Rory Burke’s presentation on 24 May. We plan to have several published authors present and will spend an hour in discussion about specific topics of common interest. You are invited to stay for this session if you see value in the collective wisdom of the interest group.

The session will run from 19:00 - 20:00
