Conquering a complex project beast

Our popular next level event-series showcasing another “Best Project Ever”: John Robertson, seasoned large, complex systems Programme Manager, and his project team

Where other countries such as Australia failed, South Africa succeeded in going live with a new, modernised customs declaration processing system in August 2013.  Since then, the system has been humming quietly in the background as part of the back-bone of the South African economy processing 5.5 million customs goods declarations per year at a customs value of R2.5 trillion. You might wonder why you have not heard a peep in the media about this major system change-over at the heart of South African international trade.  The reason is that it went live without a glitch or even the slightest tremour in the continuous processing of all import and export customs declaration of every single goods item crossing our borders.
The extraordinary outcome was the result of tremendous efforts over more than 4 years to bring a multitude of moving parts (systems, developers, government business & operations, legal requirements, the trade community, customs authorities, etc.) together. If you work with or in projects, be sure not to miss this opportunity to gain some valuable practical insights from this South African success story.

The company that developed the core declaration processing engine of this enterprise solution is based here in Somerset West with an engineering team of around 80 people.  The core project management team of this remarkable outfit, led by the Operations Director and program manager, John Robertson, will be our honoured guest panel for our annual “Best Projects Ever” Event.
Join us for an interactive Project Management autopsy with the Interfront project team who faced and conquered a true complex project beast.
