Professional Development Points

PMSA congresses and conferences allow delegates the opportunity to accumulate points towards their ongoing professional development.

Kindly note that the de facto Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points earned at PMSA events are those towards the impending PMSA designations for registered project managers. Registered people are required to accumulate points to maintain their registered status in line with the PMSA CPD programme. This programme will come online during 2013.

This programme is independent of any other professional development programme, however, points or hours accumulated through PMSA can be submitted to other associations, however, the onus is in the individual to provide the necessary evidence to substantiate the value of the content of the event. PMSA will provide the individual with a certificate of attendance which will indicate the number of PMSA CPD points and the actual contact hours (hours spent in sessions relevant to professional development requirements).

Kindly note that the PMSA CPD programme is independent of that of the Engineering Council (ECSA) and PMSA is not a Voluntary Association (VA) of ECSA. as it exists to serve professionals outside of, as well as within the engineering profession. PMSA is thus not in a position to validate its activities in terms of ECSA`s CPD requirements. Members of ECSA and its member VAs can, however, submit their attendance certificates to their professional body and in that way apply for recognition of the activity in accordance with that body's CPD requirmements.

Another example of an ongoing professional development programme is the requirement of those with PMI credentials to earn Profesisonal Development Units (PDUs). Kindly read this document for advice on how you can optimise your PMSA activities towards PDU credits.
