PMSA Western Cape Event - 'The Strategic PMO - A Case Study' - Tuesday 23rd February 2016
ABOUT THE TALK
Globally, the role of the Project Management Office (PMO) has evolved significantly over the past five years. Originally the custodian of best practice, the PMO is now expected to be a strategic business partner that enables strategy execution through projects and programmes.
Project management practitioners talk endlessly about what their PMO does, but the truth of the matter is that no two are alike. There is an abundance of literature and research available on the topic of PMOs and it demonstrates that various types of PMO structures exist, for example:
· Organisational/Business Unit PMO;
· Project Support PMO;
· Centre of Excellence/Expertise; and
· Project/Programme SpecificPMOs.
These structures act in different ways, perform different tasks and implement organisational strategy in varying ways.
What is evident however, is that regardless of PMO type, the alignment of the PMO to the goals of the organisation is key to driving strategy implementation. PMI’sPulse of the Profession In-Depth Report: The Impact of PMOs on strategy implementationclearly illustrates that high-performing PMOs nurture capabilities that enable organisations to successfully implement strategy.
It’s our pleasure to invite you to join us for our last event for the year on:
The Strategic Project Office
During this session, Dalene will share a case study of a PMO’s journey from being a tactical unit to becoming a strategic business partner.
