ABOUT THE EVENT

In celebration of International Project Management Day on the 6th November 2014, PMSA Gauteng is delighted to invite you to a presentation and round table with Gautrain Management Agency  CEO, Jack van der Merwe.  Jack will share with attendees a ‘day in the life’ of what it takes to run an internationally acclaimed legacy project as well as what the future holds for the Gautrain project.

Jack van der Merwe, is a professional Engineer. He was born in Pretoria, matriculated at the Heidelberg Volkskool and obtained the degrees B.Sc (Eng.) Civil and B.Sc (Eng.) (Hons.) Civil from the University of Pretoria. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s SED programme.

Up to the 2004 general elections Jack was the Chief Executive of the Gauteng Department of Public Transport, Roads and Works. Apart from heading the Department he was also the project leader for the Gautrain Rapid Rail Link, one of the eleven Blue IQ long term economic development projects of the Province.

In April 2004 he was redeployed to head a newly established Public-Private-Partnership Department in the Province, focusing on gearing in private sector funding, experience and innovation for capital projects. He will be implementing the Gautrain Rapid Rail Link and the GPG Government Precinct.

Jack is currently the CEO of the Gautrain Management Agency tasked with overseeing the building and operation of the Gautrain Rapid Rail Link.
