PMSA Western Cape invites you to a presentation by Brent Combrink, titled: The Value of a Good Project Administrator', on Monday morning 27th January 2014 ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
As the adoption of project management (PM) increases across industries and functions within organisations, so specialisation and organisational competence in the PM function must mature. Often overlooked and mis-understood, though, is project administration, both as a role and as a function within PM generally. Though obviously applied more explicitly at more junior levels on a day to day basis, project admin is a core competence of every practitioner in the PM field, from project administrator to portfolio manager.
In this 90-minute workshop: - We’ll explore the role of a project administrator in the context of supporting any project, whether large or small project and whether done by an individual or through the combined services of a project management office (PMO). - We’ll highlight some popular misconceptions of a project administrator – a popular one being that project admins are often regarded as merely personal assistants to the PMs! These problematic perspectives often lead to ineffective, and in some cases, counter-productive, employment of project admin staff, to the detriment of the staff themselves, their projects and the organisations. - We’ll round off by exploring the value of good project admin through key duties, PM-specific skills, typical constraints, and the strategic alignment of the project admin role in the broader PMO function and within the context of organisational strategy. - We’ll share anecdotes from real life scenarios, discuss the latest research into project admin & PMO functions, and we’ll share tips on how to establish the project admin function as a specialist role in a PMO. - Bring your stories and questions for discussion and problem solving!
