ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Ian Jay; BSc Hon. (Geology)(Cardiff) MBL (UNISA) PMP (PMI) Ian served as a Scientific Officer in the British Geological Survey, he then moved to the National Coal Board working as a geologist for the opencast executive. In 1981 he joined Shell Oil Company and worked in mineral exploration in South Africa evaluating coal, gold and base metals prospects.
He studied and graduated from UNISA with an MBL and in 1989 he changed career to the marketing and IT area in Shell. After 19 years with Shell, Ian became a project management contractor to BP specialising in business change and systems implementation. Between these two organisations Ian gained some 18 years of experience in systems and business change project management in the Oil industry. The scope of projects ranges from technology scanning, business case development through to implementation of transaction and MIS systems and IT infrastructure.
In 2008 Ian joined UCT as a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment. He subsequently became programme convenor for the MSc programme in Project Management. The programme has subsequently been rated the best MSc programme on the continent by an independent organisation. ABOUT THE TALK
In his talk Ian will present a brief overview of the historical development of the Value Management methodology followed by a presentation of the research results that support the contention that the method is a valuable and practical approach to creating new ideas at an operational and strategic level in an organization.
