ABOUT THE EVENT

Through coaching and mentoring, people are able to move from struggling or just coping to successful, high-performing individuals who are clear on their strengths, their gaps and their development path to excellence.  As a project manager, being good at growing and stretching our people towards what we know they’re capable of, is crucial for project success.

The challenge that people encounter around coaching and mentoring is the confusion over the difference between the two. What each one offers, how they work and which one to use in what context or situation is sometimes ambiguous and often a hit and miss affair.  To add to the confusion, what one group describes as “coaching”, another would perceive as “mentoring”. Far from being purist or pedantic about his, what matters is clarity in terms of what one can expect from each. Anyone can be a coach and also a mentor, but Its’ important to know which one you’re using and which one is the right tool for the job.

In this session, Gill Baronetti will present the background and principles of each as well as practical examples of the differences in the context of the project manager role. You will also get a chance to try them out for yourself.

She will also cover coaching in the agile context, which has similarities to professional coaching, but is also unique in many ways.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Gill Baronetti
Coach, Trainer, NLP Practitioner, Project Manager (PMP) & IC Agile Professional Coach & Facilitator

As a keen and eager-to-succeed IT project manager back in the early 2000’s, it was always intriguing to me how little project success had to do with the methodology or process being followed – and how much to do with the so-called “softer stuff” like team morale, their ability to collaborate and communicate, handle challenge and conflict and be able to cope with change and ambiguity.

Over the past 10 years, I have journeyed deep to increase my understanding of human behaviour, how we operate, what motivates us and what makes us thrive as individuals and in teams. I have done this through studying various practices and frameworks such as neuro linguistic programming (NLP), coaching & mentoring, behavioural psychology, motivation, conflict and more recently, Agile and Lean.

I am delighted to report that almost all of what I learned about helping people to thrive in their work environment is encompassed in the Agile philosophy and framework. I have since witnessed many turnarounds of teams who have successfully transitioned to Agile.

Currently, I serve my clients in training courses, team & leadership coaching & mentoring and team development both in Agile and non-Agile environments. I also design and lead training programmes for organisations in conflict management, coaching skills for managers, stakeholder engagement and leadership development.
