PMSA is delighted to welcome Microsoft SA back as a headline sponsor of its National Biennial Conference in 2018. In a technical recession professional bodies are finding it difficult to attract sponsorship for their bigger projects and we appreciate that Microsoft SA has continued to partner with PMSA in this way. It is indicative of their commitment to adding value in the project management space, through not only their technology and thought leadership, but also their support of knowledge sharing events.

In addition to their participation in the PMSA National Conference, Microsoft SA is working with PMSA to launch a special interest group that seeks to observe, anticipate and contextualise the impact of disruptive technology on project managers.

Those conducting PESTLE analyses to scan and describe the macro-environmental factors affecting their business and their projects are finding the ‘T for technology’ increasingly populated with terms like blockchain, artificial intelligence, 3D printing, genomics and internet of things, for example. The goal of this interest group is to develop an understanding of these technologies and the evolution of existing technologies and find ways to optimise them in our work as project managers, to enhance efficiencies, improve the customer experience and increase competitiveness. Such insight also makes project managers more marketable and increases their value proposition to their companies.

Bishan Ruder, Microsoft, WW Enterprise Commercial, GBB: Project Cloud, Middle East Africa (MEA), will be presenting in the plenary session of the conference on Thursday, 15 November 2018. He will be looking at Modern Work Management problems, strategies and trends driving technology.

On Friday, 16 November 2018, Bishan Ruder and Rina McCarthy will facilitate a session to launch the interest group, featuring a case study that highlights disruptive technology in action.

Microsoft SA will have a strong presence at the event for the duration, making it the perfect opportunity to explore new or revised tools and techniques for automating and managing aspects of your projects.

Microsoft South Africa’s mission is to empower every person and organisation in the country to achieve more.   The breadth and depth of our mission unlocks unprecedented opportunity as technology transforms every industry, and has the power to make a difference in the lives of everyone. We enable our customers’ digital transformation through four core solution areas: Modern Workplace; Business Applications; Applications and Infrastructure; and Data and Artificial Intelligence.   Our trusted platforms and tools help drive business competitiveness and public-sector efficiency.

The drive for ongoing professional development is equally the responsibility of the company and the individual. Organisational maturity and professional growth do not happen without design. For project-based organisations and project managers then, conferences serve an important function. Good conferences are comprehensive, focussed opportunities to share a lot of knowledge in a short space of time. They reignite professional passion, transfer new knowledge, stimulate creativity and inspire innovation. They foster networking and a sense of collegiality and connect the suppliers and end users of enabling products, services, education and training.

Taking place from the 14th – 16th November 2018 at the Wanderers Club, Johannesburg this three-day biennial event captures the essence of modern project management and interprets it through case studies, though leadership, best practices, research and workshops while allowing you to earn 21 contact hours towards your professional development.
