PMSA member Frank Einhorn notes that research shows that the success rate of IT projects is often way below what is desired and also suggests that the business case, if it exists, is seldom used effectively. PMSA appeals to its audience to participate in the following survey through which Mr Einhorn hopes to uncover insights into improving effective project governance around the business case and its use.

How can the business case contribute to business/ IT project success?

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

Research shows that the success rate of IT projects is often way below what is desired. Evidence also suggests that the business case, if it exists, is seldom used effectively.

We, at the University of Johannesburg, are studying these challenging realities.

What we discover will hopefully help organisations and individuals who see a need to improve effective project governance around the business case and its use,  and in doing so, enhance the success rate of such projects and their targeted business benefits.

NATURE OF PARTICIPATION

To this purpose, we need your help by way of a survey, which should take no more than 20 minutes of your time. It is likely that some of the questions will be thought-provoking.

Our survey applies to projects based in South Africa.  So, if you have experience  with the justification for, and/or implementation of, business / IT projects, then we would greatly appreciate your input  as early as possible, and latest by 11 August 2017.

The results and conclusions, which are intended to add value to your working life, will be fed back directly  (where an email address is supplied) or via cooperating organisations like PMSA (Project management SA).

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?

To take the survey, please follow the link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/busncase

Should you have colleagues or acquaintances that meet the criteria, it would be appreciated if you could email the link to them, with this background explanation.

Many thanks for your time,

Mr Frank Einhorn
