GROWING A LOCAL BODY OF KNOWLEDGE FOR PROJECT MANAGEMENT

In 2014 PMSA introduced its professional designations. This new chapter in PMSA's history creates the opportunity to further establish the organisation's relevance to the PM landscape in South Africa.

A manifestation of this relevance is PMSA's contribution to the local body of knowledge for project, programme and portfolio management, particularly at a level that will address the professional development needs of designation-holders.

With this in mind, we have introduced 'The Knowledge Series', a series of events being held around the country, featuring selected experts presenting on trends relevant to our audience. Through the Knowledge Series, we will package these themes around three elements, namely: Research; Practice; and Methodology (RPM).

ABOUT THE KNOWLEDGE SERIES

Each event will, therefore, support an overarching theme from the context of prevailing research; a relevant example of the trend in practice with lessons learned and recommendation of good practices; and those methodologies that promote success with the broad theme as a backdrop. While the Series will cover topics that may, at times, be industry-specific, we are structuring the programme to contribute to a generic body of knowledge.

It is important to us that attendees are able to build up a library of relevant information during this series, comprising the presentation itself, information provided at the session, and review documents to serve as a welcome addition to the senior Project Managers toolbox.

CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS

If you are interested in being a presenter, PMSA invites members and other thought leaders to share their knowledge, insights, research results and case studies in the Knowledge Series format kindly send an email with a resume, short motivation and a synopsis of your presentation theme to: dilshaan@projectmanagement.org.za.

Suitable themes include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Best practices: Proven methodologies and success stories on projects grown and / or delivered in Africa
  • Research and Innovation: What we’ve learned and what we know about overcoming challenges that prohibit project success
  • Insights into the nature of project management
  • Technology: How IT and telecoms are enabling better project management
  • PM for the greater good: Applying project management to social causes. Including people, planet and profit in our project practices and realising some of the socioeconomic imperatives on the continent.
  • Applying ethical practice as project practitioners
  • Updating the project toolkit: Tips, tools and techniques that pave the way for effective project management.
  • Project People: Individual characteristics and traits that serve companies and individual practitioners well when rolling out projects in Africa.

    SAVE THE DATES

We invite our community to diarise the proposed workshop dates and join us for these enlightening sessions. They will form part of the CPD programme for PMSA designations, and members may begin to gather their points prior to completing their registration.
